Peterborough Humane Society advocates for animals by improving their lives, alleviating suffering, rescuing, providing shelter, healing, facilitating adoption and reducing pet overpopulation. We are the largest animal shelter in Peterborough County and the only open admission shelter. On January 17, 2023 we began our move over to our new home at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre, which is the first-of-its-kind in Canada. This innovative Centre brings together three entities under one roof:

Manager, Donor Relations
Title: Manager, Donor Relations
Reporting to: Manager, Communications & Development
Job Type: Full-time (up to 40 hours/week)
Starting Salary: $54,500 (plus additional benefits)

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for someone who enjoys both people AND ANIMALS, who has a passion for philanthropy, and who can build deep and lasting relationships with donors to join our team as the Manager, Donor Relations. In this role, you will coordinate the implementation of an expanded program for donor engagement, major gift solicitation, cultivation, recognition, and stewardship through supporting increased personalized communication with current and prospective donors of the Peterborough Humane Society (PHS). You will synthesize trends, opportunities and information, conduct research on prospective donors and impactful philanthropic opportunities, and write customized proposals and stewardship reports for valued partners, donors and prospects.
The Manager, Donor Relations will work within the Communications and Development team to generate cultivation and stewardship activities, facilitate tours and other activation opportunities. This is a multi-functional integrated position, reporting directly to the Manager, Communications & Development with a strong linkage to the Executive Director, Manager of Finance and Human Resources, Program and Events Coordinator, and Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate strategies and resources that provide customized solicitation, cultivation and stewardship activities with donors in an integrated approach
• Document and design a donor-centric critical path, integrated systems map, revised framework, templates and new procedures for recognition and stewardship of varying levels and types of giving (e.g., annual, major gifts, Legacy, and lifetime giving, naming opportunities, sponsorship and corporate philanthropy)
• Conduct research and produce customized proposals and reports to demonstrate the impact of donor support
• Coordinate and maintain donor recognition activities and collateral
• Work with the Communications & Development team to translate donor needs and interests into content to be used in multiple communication platforms such as publications, web, social media, and videos
• Coordinate the automated production of thank you materials and accurate recognition at various levels (e.g., timely production of letters, donor wall content accuracy)
• Design and evaluate donor feedback through surveying and analysis methods
• Maintain database updates of customized communication to and from donors as required
• Create, communicate and maintain an annual array of stewardship offerings
• Research and prepare gift and grant writing proposals for corporate, foundation, and government funding opportunities
• Participate in internal meetings with a positive attitude that adheres to PHS values
• Work in collaboration with volunteers and community partners where required
• Develop relationships with the local legal community for coordination and forecasting planned legacy giving opportunities
• Analyze donor interests, demographics and preferences to coordinate segmentation plans with other team members and community partners for meaningful engagement and impact
• Present public presentations and host small group outings and visits to continue to enhance PHS brand presence / recognition within Peterborough City & County, regionally, and provincially

YOUR KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or Business Administration, plus progressive experience and proven success in fundraising and/or sales (or combined relevant experience and/or education)
• Previous work experience within a non-profit organization is considered an asset
• Experience in professional writing and understanding of marketing related to customized written communications with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience with project and event coordination with tactics to gather metrics, monitor results and summarize outputs concisely

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Outgoing personality with superb public speaking skills and a record of satisfied customer feedback
• Strong skills in planning, organizational development and problem-solving to seek donor-centred communications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GSuite, and database CRM software (e.g., Sumac, Raiser’s Edge, Canada Helps, etc.)
• Ability to manage and analyze data across a variety of software systems to create professional reports and proposals
• Good understanding of social media tools (competent in posting and responding on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
• High degree of creativity and empathetic listening when negotiating change with various stakeholders
• Ability to work as a team member as well as independently
• Strong ability to manage several projects simultaneously through completion, while adjusting to meet business objectives
• Able to work effectively with people from different backgrounds, and fully support diversity
• Ease and enjoyment of preparing presentations and in public speaking to large and small audiences
• Demonstrate a positive, welcoming attitude to our valued donors and team and volunteers
• Because this position requires external meetings and off-site events, a valid driver’s license and periodic access to a vehicle is required for transporting materials and ability to offer a flexible schedule for some evenings when required.

Registered Veterinary Technician
Title: Registered Veterinary Technician (Shelter)
Reporting to: Animal Health Coordinator (Shelter)
Job Type: Full-time (up to 40 hours/week)
Starting Salary: $48,300 plus additional benefits

POSITION SUMMARY
The Peterborough Humane Society (PHS) is looking for a strong, dynamic person with an unlimited passion for animal welfare and responsible pet ownership to join our dedicated team as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Reporting to the Animal Health Coordinator, the RVT will assist in supervising the animal care team, as well as support the day-to-day care of animals that are in the care of PHS. The RVT will mentor, support, and work closely with all staff to promote the overall health of the animals. The position ensures all animal welfare policies and procedures, health and safety standards, and disease and infection control policies are adhered to at all times. The ideal candidate for this position will be a leader by nature, and be highly motivated to make a positive difference in animal wellness at PHS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure best practices in animal welfare management are adhered to at all times through collaboration with the Animal Health Coordinator and department leads
• Monitor animal health, complete daily rounds, create daily task lists and ensure adequate animal flow within PHS
• Perform examinations, administer treatments and run diagnostic tests on animals within the shelter
• Assist Animal Health Coordinator in supervising the animal care team
• Accurate records management including animal data collection and entry
• Ensure infection control and bio security procedures are followed for the premises, animal housing units and equipment used within the centre
• Work in compliance with all PHS policies and procedures
• Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Advocate for, and continuously embody the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Peterborough Humane Society

QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful completion of a Veterinary Technician program and registered and in good standing with OAVT
• Experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician within a clinic or shelter setting (shelter preferred)
• Must have experience in providing support during humane care euthanasia
• Must have experience in administering medications (oral, topical, IM, sub Q)
• Must have ability to blood draw and prepare for testing (in-house, Idexx)
• Previous relevant experience in animal shelter environment in a leadership capacity
• Knowledge of shelter logistics and experience in coordinating animal flow within a shelter setting
• Demonstrated experience in performing examinations, administering treatments and performing diagnostic tests
• Must have experience with handling domestic animals
• Ability to effectively and safely handle aggressive / feral animal populations
• Demonstrated experience in animal husbandry
• Must have attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
• Strong organization and management skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Self-motivated and the ability to work effectively as a part of a team
• Have a strong understanding and commitment to animal welfare philosophies and practices
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job, including but not limited to:
o The ability to lift up to 50 lbs
o The ability to stay on feet for extended periods of time
o The ability to operate with full range of motion (i.e., crouching, kneeling, reaching, etc.)
