The Peterborough Humane Society is SOLD OUT of Animals in War Pins. Please visit the OSPCA website to purchase pins online.

PETERBOROUGH, ON (October 12, 2022)

Join the Peterborough Humane Society (PHS) as it pays tribute to Canada’s veterans and the animals who have bravely served by their side by wearing a commemorative Animals in War pin this Remembrance Day.

Launched by the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society in 2017, the commemorative Animals in War pin is intended to be worn alongside the poppy and represents the sacrifice made by animals who have served, and continue to serve, alongside Canada’s veterans.

Available now, proceeds from the sale of the pins help provide care for animals in need and $1 from each pin sold is donated to Royal Canadian Legion branches to support veterans. Pins can be purchased at the Peterborough Humane Society office.

“The courage and sacrifice made by our veterans and the animals who served, and continue to serve, bravely by their sides should never be forgotten,” says Shawn Morey, Executive Director of PHS. “By wearing an Animals in War pin alongside your poppy on Remembrance Day, you are remembering these heroes.”

Each pin symbolizes the wartime contributions of all animals, including mules who carried artillery, horses who transported troops and hauled field guns, pigeons delivered crucial messages, cats served as companions and kept ships free of vermin, and dogs have served as messengers, medical assistants, bomb detectors and search and rescue workers.

Pins can be purchased for $12 at the Peterborough Humane Society office at 385 Lansdowne St E or call 705-745-4722 ext. 200. Pins available for purchase leading up to Remembrance Day.
