Become A Volunteer – The Animals Need You!
Thank you for considering becoming a volunteer with the Peterborough Humane Society.
In joining our organization, you make an active commitment to applying your skills, interest and time toward helping the animals that need it most. PHS volunteers assist with shelter needs in many different ways including dog walking, cat socializing, event representation, administrative duties & so much more!

“I have been a volunteer at PHS since the fall of 2023. I have and continue to have so much respect for the staff. Each day is different, but they seem prepared for whatever they need to deal with on any given day.
I am usually a greeter and enjoy meeting the people who come into the building for different reasons. It can be just for a tour of the new building, surrendering an animal, coming to see if there’s that particular cat, dog, rabbit etc. they’ve decided they’d like to give a home. Each time I’m there, I ask a lot of questions, but continue to learn. The stories for each animal that comes to PHS is so individual, but many are sad circumstances that found them looking for a new home. When you are with these animals and they are finally adopted is so heartwarming.
This facility and its staff are a gift to both the community and the animals that are given the best of care. Although I can’t give as much time to volunteering as I’d like, I’ll continue to take pleasure in knowing while there, I help in a small way.”
