Volunteer with the Peterborough Humane Society
It takes a village to keep things running here at the Peterborough Humane Society, and our volunteers are a huge part of the magic.
Whether you’re walking dogs, socializing cats, sorting donations, greeting visitors, helping with laundry, or lending a hand at events, there’s always something meaningful to do — and a team of animal lovers to do it with!
If you’re 18 or older, you can work directly with the animals in our care. Teens aged 14 to 17 are also welcome to join the team, helping with behind-the-scenes tasks like dishes, laundry, donation sorting, guest greeting, and event support both in the shelter and out in the community.
If you’ve got a love of animals and a little time to share, we’d love to have you on board. It’s a great way to give back, build skills, and be part of something that matters.

“I’ve been volunteering at PHS since fall 2023 and have so much respect for the staff. Every day is different, but they’re always ready for whatever comes through the door.
I usually greet visitors, and I love hearing why they’ve come in — sometimes it’s to adopt, sometimes just to look or learn. I ask a lot of questions and keep learning every time I’m here.
This place is a gift to the community and the animals. Even though I can’t give as much time as I’d like, I’m proud to help in a small way.” – Marg, PHS Volunteer
