PHS Expands Community Care with New Social Services Coordinator

Nov 8, 2024

We are thrilled to announce the addition of a brand-new role within our team—a Social Services Coordinator. Please join us in welcoming Sara McKenzie, who began her journey with us on November 4th, 2024, as PHS’s very first Social Services Coordinator! The introduction of this role is a crucial step not just for PHS, but for our entire community, as we continue to recognize the importance of supporting both ends of the leash — people and their pets.

As the understanding of the human-animal bond deepens, the role of social work within animal welfare has become essential. Acknowledging the challenges pet parents face, we’re committed to offering essential resources and guidance to strengthen the human-animal bond, contributing to the well-being and resilience of our community.

Sara brings a wealth of experience to this role, most recently as an Intensive Case Manager at Four Counties Addiction Services Team, providing trauma-informed case management support to those in our community. Her work in crisis management, harm reduction, advocacy and system navigation, and relationship-building with service users and community providers will be invaluable to our efforts.

Internally, Sara will offer critical support to our staff, helping us manage difficult conversations, guiding crisis management, and offering conflict resolution expertise. Her collaborative approach and ability to navigate sensitive situations will be a tremendous asset as we continue our mission of keeping animals and people together through enhanced care and support.

Please join us in giving Sara a warm welcome! We are confident that her expertise will have a lasting impact, not only strengthening the connection between people and their pets but also contributing to the overall well-being of our organization and community.
