Tiny premature pups in PHS’ safe care

Phineas and Ferb: A Story of Hope and Resilience

This past January, a dog and her tiny premature pups arrived at the Peterborough Humane Society under dire circumstances. Stuffed into a tote and left in the freezing cold, their situation was heartbreaking—but it was also the beginning of an incredible journey of hope.

The mother dog was gravely ill, and her pups were unresponsive, their tiny bodies chilled from the cold. But the staff at PHS immediately sprang into action, rushing to care for the family, in a determined attempt to save them.

While every effort was made, the mother sadly passed away. Yet, her legacy lived on through her puppies, who became the focus of the PHS team’s unwavering care and commitment.

Around-the-clock care for these vulnerable souls

The journey was far from easy. The team stepped in as surrogate parents, bringing the fragile puppies home and providing them with around-the-clock care. They were syringe-fed every few hours, kept warm, and monitored constantly. It was a race against time—and against the odds.

Two little fighters—later named Ferb (nicknamed Rocky) and Phineas (known as Cheech)—proved their incredible resilience.

Two survivors thriving in foster care

With the love and dedication of the PHS team made possible by your support, the puppies grew stronger each day. Their little bodies warmed, their appetites grew, and soon, they were thriving. Their miraculous recovery was a testament to their strength and the compassion of those who refused to give up on them.

Over the following weeks, Ferb and Phineas blossomed, each developing spirited, unique personalities. And the happiest part of their journey? Both found incredible foster-adopt homes, where they are now loved, cherished, and thriving every single day.

“Cheech became my rock, as we grieved the loss of my beloved dog Scooby together. Cheech has lovingly become the neighbourhood security watch and keeps the squirrels out of the backyard. He also enjoys joining me at the office once and awhile to be a treat & toy tester. I am truly thankful for the all the love and dedicated work PHS did to keep my “Little Monster” alive and well. PHS has brought so much love and happiness to both Cheech and myself.” – April

“I knew from the first time I saw Rocky’s pictures and story on the Peterborough Humane Society website that I wanted him to be a part of our family! We are so happy that Rocky and PHS felt the same way. He fits perfectly with our family! He has such a zest for life. He is sweet and spicy just like I had anticipated. Rocky and his family thank you all for bringing him to us! The care, time and effort that is put into each animal is truly incredible!” – The Irwin Family

Your generosity lets PHS provide lifesaving care, emergency treatment, and second chances to animals in need. Together, we can create more happy endings for animals who deserve love, hope, and a fresh start. The sad truth is, our shelter is at or near capacity, and there are furry friends desperately needing care right now. Help us create more happy endings like Phineas and Ferb’s. Give now.

Consider making a donation, or becoming a champion for animal’s in need year-round by joining our Monthly Giving program. Without consistent funding and donations to support staff, medications, food, shelter, etc., these puppies would have nowhere to go or be cared for.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that takes place each year after Black Friday. It is a day devoted to giving back, helping those in need and working towards a brighter future. This Giving Tuesday, please donate to help change the lives of hundreds of lost, abandoned or injured animals like Phineas & Ferb who come into the care of PHS so they can find their ‘fur’ever home.
