We Are Moving!

Jan 9, 2023

January 2023
The Peterborough Humane Society (PHS) has moved to our new home at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre (PACC) at 1999 Technology Drive on January 17, 2023. Please note we are now open to the public.
For more information on our BIG move, read our Q&A below!

Where is PHS moving to?
The new Centre is located at 1999 Technology Drive in Peterborough, South East of our current facility (just a 3 minute drive) with easy access to the highway and Lansdowne St. It is also on a bus route.
When will PHS be moving?
The Peterborough Humane Society will begin moving into the new Centre in mid-January 2023. Our current shelter at 385 Lansdowne Street will be closed effective January 14, 2023. Our Animal Control Officers are available to handle any animal inquiries, please call 705-745-4722 ext 215 (after 4 p.m.  your call will be forwarded to an after hours on-call service).
Minimal construction and external work will be ongoing for awhile. A grand opening event is being planned for Spring 2023.
Who will be moving to PACC?
Three vital animal welfare programs will be offered under one new roof:
1. The Peterborough Humane Society’s Animal Care Centre
2. A High-Volume Spay & Neuter Clinic to provide affordable spay and neuter services to prevent pet overpopulation
3. Canada’s first Dog Rehabilitation Centre created in partnership with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society
What is planned for the big move?
The Peterborough Humane Society shelter on Lansdowne St. closed effective January 14, 2023. During this time we ask for the community’s patience as we move our services over to the new Peterborough Animal Care Centre at 1999 Technology Drive.
We will be moving over 100 animals to the new facility, nearly 30 staff and opening a new Spay & Neuter Clinic. We hope to have a soft opening of the new Centre in February?March. We are planning to have a grand opening in June 2023 with a big event to celebrate. Stay tuned!
Why are you moving?
While our shelter served the community well for the past 65+ years, a great deal has changed in animal wellness. We are caring for more animals than ever before, and our facility simply is no longer suitable to accommodate the level of care the animals require. In our new Centre, animals will have more room and experience less noise and stress, thereby reducing anxiety and setting them up for a greater opportunity to connect with their perfect adoptive family.
With the new Dog Rehabilitation Centre and the addition of a Spay/Neuter Clinic all under the same roof, this new Centre will provide full animal wellness services in an open community space. This move has been in the works for a decade – we can’t wait to welcome you to our new home!
How will you be moving?
Thanks to our friends at Auto Connect we will have multiple cargo vans to help with the move of 100+ animals. Volunteers and staff, together with McWilliams Moving and Storage will assist in the move which, overall, will take several days to ensure appropriate attention and care is provided.
