Celebrating Impact: Highlights from the Peterborough Humane Society’s 2024 Annual Report

Apr 26, 2025

We are proud to share the 2024 edition of the Peterborough Humane Society’s Annual Report.

This report is more than just numbers on a page. It is a reflection of the thousands of lives we’ve touched, the partnerships we’ve built, and the compassion that fuels every day at the Peterborough Animal Care Centre. From animals adopted into loving homes, to new programs that support both pets and their people, 2024 was a year defined by growth, innovation, and community.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • 717 animals adopted, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and even a chinchilla

  • 4,027 spay and neuter surgeries completed through our Clinic, with nearly 1,200 for shelter animals

  • Over 13,000 lbs of pet food distributed to animals in our care

  • 67 animals supported through our Safe Nights for Pets (SNooPy) program

  • 220 lost pets reunited with their families

  • More than 7,000 volunteer hours logged by 195 dedicated individuals

  • $70,000 raised through our new PHS 50/50 Lottery program

  • 800+ attendees at our first-ever Pet Fest

This past year also brought new staff roles, expanded training services, a focus on accessible care through our Spay It Forward initiative, and strengthened ties with local human-service agencies. Our reach grew in the community and online, with events, outreach visits, and animal stories shared with tens of thousands.

Behind every milestone is a story of hope, healing, and connection. Animals like Timmy, who waited 268 days to find his perfect home, remind us why we do this work. Volunteers like Ashleigh, who gave her time and adopted her dog from PHS, show what happens when care comes full circle.

Take a look at the full Annual Report to see the difference your support has made. Inside, you’ll find the animals, the numbers, and the people behind every success story.
